Golf Tips For The Senior Golfer
By Donald Paquin
All golfers need a little help, with their game, from time to time. One big problem is that most golf tip guides are geared toward the younger golfer. That’s fine but, what about us older golfers? We still enjoy the game of golf, and we also need help once in a while.
As we grow older, our bodies don’t like to move like they used to. I know my golf game is not the same as it once was. Its not because I don’t remember what club to use or what type of ball is better in different weather temperatures.
My problem is, I’m getting older. Simple fact, as much as I don’t like to admit it. And I know that there are lots of people that feel like me. But we enjoy getting out there, playing 18 holes on a weekend with a few friends, and have a good ole time.
I went crazy trying to figure out why my short game went into the toilet. It was like it happened overnight. For some reason, I just could not hit my pitching wedge anymore. That was always one of my strong points. Boy, I sure could hit that club and almost always land on the green near the pin.
But now, I couldn’t hit that club to save my soul. And then it began. You know, all my friends telling me what I was doing wrong. You need to do this, and you need to do that. Well I got so confused, that I got to the point of having trouble with every club!
One main problem was that my closest friends, that I play golf with, are a bit younger than me. They were really telling me what I knew was right, but for some reason, I just couldn’t do it.
Then I went online to look for some help. I thought that I could just get a guide to show me what I was doing wrong. I found out that it wasn’t what I was doing that was wrong, it was what I COULDN’T do that was wrong.
Its amazing what you can learn to do, that can compensate for some of the things your body wont do. And I couldn’t believe how simple it was. It sure is nice to really enjoy golf again. I’m never going to play in the PGA, but now when I play on my weekly league, I not only can feel good about my game but, now I can even beat some of the younger guys!
They like calling me “the old guy”, and when we get back to the clubhouse I sometimes hear someone say, “so the old guy beat you by how many strokes?”
That makes me feel even better. And one more good thing came from all this. I don’t crawl into the house after a round of golf anymore. Because, now I don’t push myself. All my moves are natural and not forced like I was doing.
